Electrical Wiring Question

I'm about three weekends away from finishing my 8N restoration and, hopefully, starting the tractor. I'm studying the wiring diagram from the F0-4 manual and I have two questions. I have a "stealth" 12 volt generator negative ground system with a new original-style wiring harness. All of the wiring is supposed to be exactly like the original 6 volt system except, of course, that the ground strap is attached to the negative post of the battery, etc.
Here are my two questions:
1. How do I wire the anmeter? I see from the diagram that the harness wire passes through the meter, but there's no connection for the meter itself. Do I splice the wire?
2. My new 12 volt coil has a negative and positive terminal. Does the wiring harness wire that attaches to the coil go to the negative or positive terminal of the coil?
I confess that I'm electrically challenged. Thanks much for the help.

Rick, the gauge that the wire passes through is the original gauge and it picks up the signal through the loop on the rear of the gauge. The coil negative is the distributor side, positive is the ignition feed.
