I believe i have seen on here before a topic about using a 12v battery in place of a 6v battery, am i mistaken or can this be done as long as the 12v battery is hooked up as positive ground. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pete, putting a 12 volt in a 6 volt system without the conversion kit is for guys who hate their electrical system. It will fry the coil points and headlights. A person should stop and think, 2n/9n/and early 8n's run on 4.5 volt only the late 8n's and newer run on 6 volt. You have to have the resistor block to cut the voltage to coil. I have heard of people putting 8 volt batteries in a 6 volt system without problems, But I figured I'd wait til someone posted something about it before I try it. John

John,

I run an 8 volt battery in my 2n. Always starts, even when very cold. The generator cut-out (regulator) as I understand it cuts out at around 8 volts, so the system is used to having that much voltage anyway. Regards, Lee

Yes it can be done but its hard on the coil and points and if you have lights it will blow them out, and also the generator will not charge it
