Hi there everyone.

Just wanted everyone to know that we reached the national cold spot last friday at -50. Not bragging either. It seems the older I get, the more I feel the cold. Out of curiosity I had to test the 8n. Pluged in the heater (lower hose) for a couple hours and hit the starter and off she ran. I had to hold the clutch in for a while (90 wt tranny). I didn't try the three point, Just warmed her up. 6 volt system. I also threw some boiling water into the air to watch it turn into instant ice cystals. Have a good day.

Rich

Rich,
As a long-time Minnesota resident with a lot of Canadian arctic experience and speaking as a research engineer I can tell you that boiling water turns to ice crystals much slower than cold water. It just appears that boiling water freezes more quickly due to the vapor cloud from the hot water. The rest is an old wives' tale. Al E

OK, stop being a weeny. Try to start her without the heater. No guts no glory!
My record in southern Wi is -14, 6V. (Never had a heater to try!)

i lived in hibbing in the 90s when we broke the all time record at -60... tried that same water in the air deal and it did freeze and came down as hard ice chunks.. the next year i moved to arkansas.. by the way, for four days before the record was broken my thermometer showed between -60 and -65.. and it got all the way up to -45 in the day time... the night that the record was set my thermometer broke.. it will forever say-70

Here in PA, we generally design home heating systems to maintain a 70-80 temp. differential from outside temp to inside temp. Does this mean that the temp inside your house is +20 to +30 deg?

I don't care how old or young you are - -50 degrees is brutally cold! I am glad I live in Texas!

Congrats on the great running tractor you have there. Sounds like you have it in tip-top shape.
