I have a John Deere 410 backhoe. It leaks oil at one of the piston plugs of the hydraulic pump. I have changed the o-ring and shield but it continues to leak as soon as the machine is warmed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with that machine or HYD setup.. explain further.. exactly what type of fitting/plate is leaking? ( is this a ram/rod leak, or a line fitting? or a pip-plug style fitting?... or something else? )

Also.. got a pic of it?

Hello souNdguy,

The plug that is leaking is a piston plug right on the hydraulic pump. I don't have a picture right now but can try to put one on if I am able.
The model number of the hydraulic pump JD1 65 CM3 (4 IN.3) if that helps any.
Thanks

The Deere radial 8 piston closed-center hydraulic pumps have been known to develop a crack next to the piston plug, in the main cast iron body.

I have one on my workbench right now, in this condition.

If your plug is not damaged, and there are no burrs or obvious damage where the plug's "O" ring seats in the piston bore, you probably have a cracked pump case. Did you torque the plug to spec?
