I can't believe what someone paid for this common N series item on ebay! I must have 4 of them laying around the barn. What is so special and why so many bidders? Ebay item # 2593339556

I haven't parted a 8N tractor for a long time. I just went and took a look at all the parts on eBay. I am suprised nobody cleans anything any more! A little elbow grease on those parts sure would make the prices closer to being fair. Makes me wonder what a nice running complete 8N Engine would sell for now. I see nobody sells big items or just maybe there not listed right now. Heck no Shermans, Howards, Transmissions, Rear 3rd Members ect. What is the world of parters coming too, no good clear close up pictures either. Lots of after market junk listed tho. Mark H.

Did you see the ad in the classifieds section? A guy has 3 John Deere carbs that he is trying to sell. Not cleaned up a bit; looks like they just came off of the floor in the back of the barn....asking price? Yeah, I think $1000 for 3 carbs is fair..NOT. I mean really, $330 each? And you'd still have to clean it and put in some new gaskets? $300 for all of them, maybe. Some people....

Original parts are getting harder to find and more and more people are holding on to their stuff. At the same time, more and more people are trying to make small fortunes on junk reproduction stuff that they think is valuable, or have original parts that they want 5X what it's actually worth. True, fair price is what someone will be willing to pay but starting an auction at $950 for a bench grinder/drill press? Let's not be so greedy people. We're all poor farmers (at heart, anyways).

I used to clean my parts to look for problems like hair line cracks ect. I think by these guys not doing that they can say they did not know what was wrong or let you break it taking it apart because it is frozen up and that way it is your fault it does not work. Mark H.

Hi Arthur-
The original flat-bar top links for the Ford N's and Fergusons too are really for restoration projects for originality. That's how they were then and when I show my '48 8N I always have a Dearborn implement hitched and a flat-bar top link to boot. They were a pain to get adjusted right and then they moved from their settings with use. When I use my tractor to work, I always use a newer tubular, easier to adjust top link on the implement I'm using-i.e. mower, back blade, plow, cultivator, scoop, boom, disc harrow, and so on and so forth. Put me on your list for one too as I like to leave one with each implement for show. Thanks.

Just like $25 for a few handfulls of used nuts and bolts... It is very hard to get a decent deal on eBay due to what most people are willing to pay for stuff. I sure can't figure it out.

My emails unhid if you are interested.

That is utterly ridiculous. BTW, have you seen the Sherman grinder/drill press for sale? Those are super rare, but I doubt they're worth the $950 starting price the guy is asking for it!!! Unbeleivable. I could see maybe $250 max, but not $950.

I've been wanting to get ahold of one for a while, myself, but the most I was willing to pay was maybe $25 + shipping. If you'd be willing to part with on that had good, non-chipped balls on it for that price, please email me. Heck, email me anyway, there's a couple more pieces i'm looking for, too.

Jeb
