Hey Zane, Can you make a system that would fit the n series to filter out water from the hydraulics?
Maybe an externally mounted filter.

That would be a neat trick if it could be done.

I have an old IH backhoe that sits out in the weather all the time and tends to get moisture in it. The system has a big paper filter for the hydralics and when the moisture gets into the system the lift will start to cry because the moisture is trapped in the paper filter and that causes the paper to swell and not let the oil go through.

Back when I used it a lot to do construction work I have at times placed a heater under the transmisson housing which is the oil reservoir like the N tractors and left it there for a day or so with the filler cap off so that when the oil got hot enough to make the water turn into vapor it could escape to the atmosphere. It has to get pretty hot for this to really work though. I would guess aroung 200 or more degrees. I would still have to replace the filter but most of the moisture would burn off if I left the heater under it long enough. Beat spending$50.00 on all new oil. I still have the old IH backhoe (1965) but don't use it much. Actually I need to use it more than I do because it is not good for any machine to stand idle long. Deteriotation sets in after just a few weeks and the longer it sits the more it deteriorates.

There's one already in existence. Its called a TIGHT rubber gear shift cover. A secondary preventive is a shed with a roof.

Agree, but realize that the air in the hyds expands when tractor i being used and the air contracts as it cools when tractor is not in use. This contraction can draw moisture into the hyd case anyway.

Don't forget changing the oil every 40 years or so also helps!
