Hello Burt.I called you about a year ago about buying a 1939 9N. Any way in my search for a 39N I've seen alot of the interesting changes and it seems that the first 9N fenders had around 16 rivits holding on both top and bottom fender brackets. Some where around # 6000-8000 they went to fewer rivits. When they went to the single rib there were only 4 rivits..3 on bottom and 1 on top bracket the other 4 holes got bolts or brackets and bolts. As you know most of this early 9N stuff can only be found by looking at alot of tractors and keeping an open mind.I will post a picture of the fender of the 1939 9N in the Parts & Pieces. I bought tractor last year from a super nice fellow who had it in the classified of this forum, the serial# is *9N 2624 *. I have posted some other 1939 9n parts on Parts & Pieces. Look at my 2 small generators as I was wondering when did they switch from the 2 wire small generator that used a voltage regulator and 20 amp gauge to the 1 wire small generator tha used a cut out??? Thanks Jason Grooms Jagperf@aol.com

The small generator with a regulator was used until # 12499, then the small generator with a cutout and output adjuster was used until about # 20000, the ammeter with the 2 posts on the back was used until # 4000.

This is the one on my 1940 9N and is a 1 wire small 6 volt generator. I was suprised how new it looked being 64 years old! First one I ever saw in person so far. Mark H.

Mark it looks like your small generator has the small pulley. Look in Parts & Pieces as I've got a picture of both small and large pulleys. Most people think the pulley is the same size as the generator but there was a small pulley also. Im not sure but maybe it was used to speed up the generator to increase output???Thanks Jason.. PS aren't these old 9Ns fun. It fun to hear people say that all the old N,s are the SAME. You wont believe the differences in an early 9N and a 2N.

If you look at the front of the pulley it is pretty complex looking also and all cast iron. Mark H.

Thanks for picture Mark. What # is your 1940 9N. Also look back in the Part & Picture gallary as I have a picture of a 1 wire and a 2 wire small generator. Plus there is a 2 pictures of the original 20 amp gauge that is a non inductive type . It has 2 lugs and the current flows through it. It is the only one I have seen, look good at it as it is defenatly the original gauge from *9N 2624* Thanks Jason Grooms

This is my Oil Presure Gauge while running still cold it went down to 30 psi hot. Not sure if this is a original one goes pretty high for a 9N? I could not find your picture of your amp gauge but I saw your generators. Mine is like the middle one in the group of 3. I will photo my amp gauge today. Mark H.

Mark, That gauge is from the 1954 and up series as it is an 80lb gauge. The 9N-2N-8N all used a 50lb gauge. Thanks Jason

My ser # is 37425 and the outer part of the lift control handle arch is also heavy cast not pressed metal. I will have to look at my amp gauge. Mark H.
