Hello All,
Well, I just wanted to thank everyone for their help getting my neighbors 8N running. You guys are the greatest!.
I got the Head Milled and put back on the tractor, changed out the oil and Anti-Freeze, I then let her run for about an hour and checked the oil level, it wasn't overfull, but I did notice that their was some Milkyness to it, Is this Normal? Also, this tractor does not have a Water Temperature guage, probably got hot at one point (the Head gasket was bad and the head was warped)
Does this need a Temp guage for the future, if so, where do you pick it off at (the Block)?
Thanks All,
Rick

If you had alot of water in the oil from a blown head gasket.. you will probably still see some emulsion in the first oil change. I would add some mmo to thin it down.. run it till its up to temp, and then change the oil and filter again. You can pick up 6qts of TSC oil and a fram c3 filter for 10 bucks, if you want to try this, to see if it is still leaking, after the second oil change. If you do see more emulsion in this 2nd oil change.. look for other problems.. I.e.. cracked block, or uneven deck.

You can have a lot of moisture in your block even after changing the oil. When they run for a while the condinsation will come out the fill tube and milk up the filler some. Even my VW would do that and it was air cooled. You need to get it good and warm to get the moisture out and short runs of the engine won't. If your oil is milky you are getting water still in it. It may take a few oil changes to clear it up. The only thing i have found that will clean it out is diesel fuel. I add a 1qt and run it for about 20 min. then change the oil & filter again.

No, milky oil is not a normal thing at all. It is one thing to mill the head but.....if the deck you are attaching the head to is not flat then you have a whole new set of problems. Re-torque the head first thing. Did you clean out the threads in the block before you installed the head? Did you use new head bolts? Kerosene or diesel fuel will help clean out the inside of the motor but sometimes that can open a new can of worms. The new motor oils today have quite a bit of detergent in them and will clean the motor up well enough on its own. Running a solvent in the motor sometimes does more harm than good.....

As far as the temp guage goes. Go to your New Holland dealer and purchase an in-line thermostat for the upper radiator hose. Make sure you use a hose clamp to keep the thermostat from moving in the hose.

So.....

1. retorque the bolts

2. Install the thermostat

3. Warm the motor up

4. Drain the oil.

5. New oil and filter.

6. Start her up and pray for the best !!
