I took the coil off and I can't see any marking on it to tell if it is 6 or 12. how can I identify if it has been changed over thanks Philip

Philip..... ....yep, thats a BIG problem trying to figger out if'n your frontmount coil is OEM 6 volts or modern 12 volts. 'specially since the only mfr doesn't part number it or mold in a voltage number (that'd be too simple).

Whatcha do is connect an ohmmeter to the top-terminal and measure to each bottom terminal. The secondary (sparkies) terminal will be about 7000 ohms for eather the 6 or 12 coil. A modern 12 volt coil primary will be about 3+ ohms and OEM 6 volt primary will be about 1 ohm. (thats a difference factor of 3, and should be quite noticeable)

Don't forget to gently stretch your coil's springy thingy for better contact..... ..Dell
