Archie..... ...I ain't no expert on 6-cyl Funks, but this is what I kinda figgered out. Because ALL automotive engines run the same direction, all starters turn the same direction. The Funk conversion starter problems lies with the OEM 6-cyl starter motor being on the right side of the engine ...AND... the N's tranny starter hole is on the LEFT side of the engine. SO Funk made somesortta "starter adaptor" to make things fit and work. From there, it getts murky. Don't know if'n they used a standard 6-cyl starter motor, or if'n they used the N's starter motor ...OR... some other starter motor completely. Or if'n had a reverse bendix screw...or...gack..... just donnna know. BUT several years ago, I helped 'nuther feller do a Flathead 60 V-8 conversion and kept his starter motor on right side of engine under exhaust manifold by changing to geardrive "Nippondenso" 12 volt starter motor. where the starter drive doesn't need to extend into the tranny housing. Outfit was selling on E-Bay outta Michigan using a "cutesy name" that wasn't the real company name. Unfortunately, I lost the e-mail address or the real company name. He had adaptors made up for numerous old engine applications, including Flathead V-8's and N-Tractors 4-cyls, but I don't remember for 6-cyls. I once did an E-Bay search but their archives only go back 6 months. So heres the "clue", go web searching for "Nippondenso", ya just might get lucky. Heck, do an N-Board search to get ya started..... ..Dell
