Yeah, I know. Here's another idiot wanting to know when his Ford was built. So? I might want to sell it. The serial number on this 2N is unreadable. It is an unmolested and probably low hrs. tractor. People ask me, "what year is it?". Heck I don't know. How can I figure it out without the serial number?. Must be a clue somewhere that would put me close.

I know it's there on my 2N, but it's on the INSIDE so you'd have to remove the pump to see it!

Due to the oval radius rods, you are looking at 1944 or later 2N. On the starter bulge of the flywheel housing is an alpha-numeric code that tells when the the block was cast. This is only a rough guestimate and the rule of thumb is to add 2-6 weeks to the date on the casting code.

The code works like this: First letter is the month; A-January, B-February, but we don't think the letter "I" was used. The next two letters are the day of the month, and the last number is the last digit of the year. My 2N reads L276, or November 27, 1946. There are some other casting codes (like the one on the right rear axle trumpet housing under the part number) and just add 2-6 weeks to the latest one.

This is what I was looking for. Mine says C267. So then it must be a casting date of March 26, 1947. Thanks.

You're right -- now, look on the bottom of the engine pan, the middle top of the head, usually the left side of the trans casting, the bottom rear inspec plate,(also the casting down there, and the bottom of the differential housing. there are usually alpha/numeric casting numbers in all those spots. The casting numbers on the fronts of each of the rear axle housings are usually numeric only and give month, day, year. Make a list of all these numbers you can find, then pick the youngest number and add 3 or 4 weeks. (Usually all the numbers will be within a span of 4 or 5 weeks unless some parts have been replaced). Thats about when your tractor rolled off the production line.

Go to www 8nford com and look at the id your tractor section. Look at your options, and see if you can narrow it down to a year or two.

Believe it or not, it says 2N on the Ford Medallion. Tube wishbone, pressure radiator, little different toolbox, rear hubs, etc.etc.
