Several weeks ago, while backing out of my garage, I tore the driver's side mirror off of my 2001 Civic. After more than a few choice words, I then managed to find most of the pieces and glued everything back together. During the process, I found that the three wires that went to the power-adjustable mirror had been pulled away from the connector. Not having a manual, I figured that I'd simply place them back in and see what would happen. Prior to this I had noted that the power adjustable mirror on the passenger side still worked. After connecting everything, I found that none of the mirrors worked. Then disconnected the driver's side wire and the passenger side mirror refused to work as well. I checked the fuses (they were fine) and even removed the grounding strap at the battery to see if this would re-set everything. Nothing helped. On top of all this my SRS warning light has appeared and refuses to go out. I also found out that the fuses that control the mirror and the SRS system are next to each other, and no amount of checking or swaping has helped. Does anyone have any suggestions? I hate to take this to the dealer.

The mirror is made by Magna Donnelly, I believe. They have a pretty good website and they may be able to get you hooked onto a service route. Please note that this is a long shot and at best they will only be able to deal with the mirror. I was a supplier to them for a while and I know they do other Honda mirrors.

On the subject of all the other stuff I would be searching the web for brothers with the same problem. I would try to get that kind of thing fixed right away because those little electrical parts are way expensive if you fry them and have to replace them.

I miss the old days of my 1964 Chevy where if you snagged the mirror it would pull the side of the garage loose. If you broke the mirror you could get a universal replacement for about $6.00 at any auto store.

Are we really better off?

Good luck
