I am looking at a original looking, working 660 tractor with a loader. Everthing seems to work, although one rear rim is completely rusted through. Engine dosen't smoke or rattle. The sheetmetal is original with a rust hole in the hood. What is this tractor worth? I'm new at this and mainly interested in an old Ford tractor to mow 5 acres. Is this tractor worth considering?

A 660 is a good tractor. The five speed transmission and live PTO are a distinct + as compared to a 640 or NAA. A reasonable guess would be $3300 - $3600. The wheel is a couple hundred to have fixed, the hood is no big deal if you are not looking for a beauty queen. If the loader runs off a front pump rather than the standard hydraulics that would be good. I was looking for a 660 when I found an 850 calling my name - I still wonder if I should have held out..

Thanks for the reply. The loader is not run off a separate pump at the front. It seems to be run off the the rear hydraulics. Since I am still learning about these tractors, is the tractor supposed to be stopped when changing between gears, or can you shift while moving? Like I said earlier, I'm new to this hobby. I want to be clear that this tractor isn't very pretty, needs a new rear rim, has no lights, and has rust holes in the hood, but seems to be mechanically ok. So, is this this tractor worth $3000? Does the loader add much value to the price? Thanks.

Rick,
Tractor prices are weird!!! Depends on where you live and how bad you want the tractor. Paul is about right, especially if it runs good. The loader is another question. Again, depends on how bad someone wants a tractor with a loader. Personally, I wouldn't give more than an extra $300 for a good loader. They tend to put a lot of wear and tear on the front end. If I didn't need the loader on my 8N to move horse poop and gravel on a regular basis, I wouldn't leave it on there. Figure $3000 for a top end price and see how much you can keep in your pocket out of that. Check "Tractor Values" under "Research & Info" in the column to the left.

I can buy the tractor today with the loader for $3,000 + tax. There is going to be a big tractor action (only two Fords though: this 660 and a Ford 2000) in a week. Would I possibly get a better deal by waiting and bidding on it at the auction? The only other action I have been to had two rusty, non-running 8Ns without any equipment that went for around $1,500-$1,600 each.
