If a guy wants to do custom tractor work like bush-hogging, say first gear mowing and then figure 2nd gear mowing what would be a going rate per hour to charge the public? I have a 5ft. mounted on a 2n. Also how much could you cut on average per hour in first gear-second gear? As always I really appreciate you guys on a daily basis, thanks for being there and for the kindness and respect you show to everyone. homeboy

Here in ultra-liberal (read young urban professional) owned and controled Vermont, the going rate is $40/hour minimum and most are $50-$60.

The reason is that the operators are forced through common sense to carry huge insurance policies on them and their machines.
The guys that hog around here are unwilling to lose the family farm because they may chuck a rock through the side of a Lexus or Lambourghini.

You may want to look into liability insurance before you start doing any work for other people...

I've got a '51 8N with a rear-mounted Woods RD7200 finishing mower. My 84 year-old father-in-law pays me $60.00 to drive 115 miles (one way) and cut his 5 acre hillside property. A friend of mine pays me $100.00 to drive 25 miles (one way) and cut 2 acres of level land. Go figure!

Doesn't your butt hurt after driving 115 miles [one way]?

Nah...I stand up every once in a while and I stop in Bucksnort (about halfway there) to get a baloney sandwich and take a leak. Pretty scary when those 18-wheelers blow by, though!

It's taking two days off work to make the trip that really kills me! Mowing the hill is the easy part...;)

You might want to check with one of them equipment rental places, see what they charge for 25 h.p. tractor & 5' hog, then add price of your labor. Your time is worth something, as well as wear and tear on your antique that still earns its keep. I think $25.00 sounds a little cheap. My 2 pennys.

If my time was really worth something I probably wouldn't be farting around with a 45 year old tractor.

Well Al it keeps you out of the bars and away from wild wimmen don,t it>? Now thats worth somethin, and its worth more when you can get someone else to pay for your n-tertainment, because they think you,re working so hard. You could charge extra for the performance because of the antique factor.

I had a fellow brush hog my vacant lot before I built my house and bought my 8n,He charged me 50 bucks for 2 level acres, it took him about 2 hrs. He used a 1953 john deere chug chug chug that was almost 12 years ago.
