Hi, last fall I purchased a rear scoop for my 8N, got a deal...$10 and a 6-pack. It was a deal that was hard to resist.

The thing is very heavy...made of very thick steel. It has a large handle on one side to facilitate dumping...right?

Any information/advice/wisdom on how to use this? I understand I can use this in either direction...right?

I bought it to help me dig an area for a floating slab for a small cabin...only going down about 2' in gravel-loam...usually easy digging.

One last thing on this...I need to look at the scoop in the morning, but right now I am thinking I remember a information plate on it with "Sears & Roebuck" stamped on it along with serial numbers and such...Sears??? could that be right???I will let you know tomorrow if your interested.

Thanks guys.

That is a Dearborn scoop, but it is not reversible. Ed Gooding has a manual and if you ask him real nice I bet he would send you a scan of it. Hope this helps.

I was way off on Sears...It's a Dearborn! Thanks for showing the picture. Would you tell me about your experience with this and offer any advice? What projects have you used it for?

I am interested in figuring out what will work best for my top link...go short or long.

And any chance you know how I could get in touch with Ed Gooding to get a scan of the manual?

Thanks a lot!!! If your ever up my way in Central NY, stop in for a beer...or two....

Glad I could help Sal! I have not used it for anything yet, it is not as versatile as some of the newer ones that are reversible but it is made to last and I have heard of people digging fish ponds and stuff with them. It did not fit the 1510 'till I turned the wheels around(too wide to fit between the tires). Plan was to use it moving this stuff:

to the driveway before smoothing out the pot holes with the back blade(better than shovelling truckfuls at a time). But I will have to knock the peaks off first as with this one you can't get a good bite unless you drive forward over it. Get the directions from Ed, and I'm sure you will find some use for it. He gives out his address so I doubt he'll mind me including it below. Happy digging!

I have two of them. One has been extended and is too big to be used for the N tractors. I don't know who did the extention job, but it looks professional. Anyhow, we have used the other one on an 8N for the past 30 years or so and the only thing I've had to do to it is weld a strip of metal to the front of the bucket and grind a knife edge on it because it was worn away.

I have never seen one made by Sears & Roebuck but could be. My dad and I have two that is the old Dearborn made and they work good just not as fast as a D9 Cat, have not looked at ours for awhile but we never used ours backwards always pulled it forward. Yes, the handle is for dumping it. Have fun Greg NE
