Hi, I posted this last week on the Massey forum, and even though they are a great group of folks, I haven't heard anything,,, figured I would try my hand here as this is a fast moving (and wise) board...
Here's the origanal post:
Hello, I have a 1958 Massey MF65 with a front mount (stinger) hydro pump thats used to run a loader... I want to remove the loader for a little bit and was curious about the pump removal... I have not been able to find or locate the shaft connection... Was wondering if I will find a flange connection, or a spline connection. What is typical??? I know there are no standards for this, but perhaps some commonalities... Any wisdom will help.
Thank guys,
Adam

Adam - When I removed my stinger, it was left handed threads (loosen it clockwise). I used a pipe wrench to loosen it, without having to disassemble anything on the front end. Use a large pipe wrench on the stinger shaft, close to the pulley. If turning it clockwise doesn't help, try it the other way. Dell has described a neat way of locking the engine from turning over (using a soft rope in one of the spark plug holes to stop the piston from reaching the top of its stroke...).

the shaft could be treaded into the hub at the crank pulley. it should be left hand tread.

Adam..... ....best guess, if'n it ain't intutitively obvious, its probably a "stealth" spline drive/disconnect scheme (just slides in/out, but its probably rusted tight) at the crankshaft pulley adaptor. 'course ya ain't gonnna find out about it until AFTER you try to remove the rest of the FEL (grin)..... .....Dell
