Hi my name is Roy and am new to this site. Purchased 1948 8N according to the pervious owner the engine was rebuilt approx. 3 years ago. He did tell me that he was driving it and all of the sudden he lost oil pressure, so he parked it for about a year. Now sitting in my garage with full intent of rebuilding it. Just a few questions-Any thoughts on why the oil pressure was lost. Could this be a quick fix or heavy duty repairs? Any in put greatly appreciated

By going to this site and reading some of the issues looks like there's tons of knowledgable 8N owners.

Thanks for your help.

Roy

Roy..... ....the usually reason the oilpressure got lost is the cantlevered oil-pickup tube lost its suction seal because it broke its soldered attachment up at oilpump gear. If'n ya drain the oil, then look-up inside the oil pan, if'n you can "wiggle" the oiltube, its bad. Unfortunately, you haffta drop yer oilpan to eather repair or replace. And to drop yer oilpan ya haffta remove yer front axle...etc...

Recommend you seriously consider the merits of your very own personal copy of the I&T FO-4 repair manual for instructions and proceedures, readily available at sponsors of this great N-Board, most agricultural emporiums. Amazon.com, www.n-news.com also has great archive of 3-point implement manuals. Why even yer local Ford/New Holland parts sells it, isn't that amazing? $27US (cheap)..... .....respectfully, Dell

Roy, welcome to the N Board! I've learned a lot here! A few reasons for sudden loss of oil pressure include low oil, a bad gauge or a leaking/broke oil pick up tube. Any of these 3 reasons are an easy fix; if the oil pump went out, that's a bit more expensive & time consuming.

Welcome Roy,
I can't tell you why your oil pressure dropped, but I can tell you you've come to the right place. Folks here are genuine and knowledgable. It's a rarity these days to find anyplace you can get this kind of info offered freely and with the best of intentions. I have needed and gotten terrific info here for my 48 8N. Good luck,
John
