In case this helps anyone else...
I put a new starter on the 12V 8N and decided to change the relay too. Some of you may recall I posted that the engine then turned over with the key switch only (bypassing the starter button). Turns out the relay I got at the NH dealer was internally wired hot, so I changed to a 6V 4 post which is the only one that I could find that is definately not wired hot. Had to go to 4-5 places cause they'd all say,"just use this one...a relay is a relay".
Thanks to all for the help, esp. Bob W.

ALL 8n 3 terminal relays are wired hot, internally.. "oem". The two big studs are battery in and out... You put the third small stud toward the engine.. and your thumb switch grounds that third terminal... thus letting the tractor start.
