Does anyone know if you can get main and connecting rod bearings in .011 and .012 undersize. The ford manual lists those sizes but no one seems to have them. We had a crank ground to .010 under. It seems by my checking it that it's a little too loose. I get .003-.0035 clearance using plasti gauge. The crank looks great and instead of getting into a big problem with getting it reground to .020 under I figured if we could get slightly tighter bearing we'd be ok. Thanks.

Richard,

Did you have your connecting rods checked and resized, if needed?

At one time you could buy simifinished bearings and have the company cut them to your desired size. There is no such thing as an .011 or .020 to my knowledge ready made.

I think you could run that crank anyway without having any symptoms of anything wrong. No telling how many I have thrown together trusting the machinest and never had problems with one.

That's probably what I'll do. It just bugs me. We get the thing done and it's just not 100%. When you go through all this trouble you want it to be perfect. Truth of the matter is you can never have perfect I guess. Thanks Zane.

I stand with Zane on this one! Besides 3 to 3.5 is right within specs.

That's the part I'm not seeing. My manual says .0005 to .0025 running clearance for the mains and rods. I got .003 to .0035. A little loose. I figured if I got main bearing that were 1 or 2 thousands more under I would be right within.

Lots of n's running every day with the clearances you report and good oil pressure. If it really bothers you shim stock from you local real auto parts place ought to allow you to get exactly the clearance you seak.

Your mileage may vary
