Brush Hog Blades

I bought a used brush hog for my 8N. The blades look pretty dull and will need to be sharpened. What is the best way to sharpen the blades? I have immediate access to an angle grinder and could probably get access to a bench grinder.

Thanks,
Ryan

ryan, i raise the hog with the 3ph as high as it will go (shorten the top link). then place several 3'- 4'long boards under the back end to hold it up, you could also chain it up to something. without the tractor running, crawl under with a grinder and grind the edge. i've seen a hog cut when it had almost no bevel at all. keep the edge relative to what you cut. if all you cut is clean lawn/field, a sharper edge can be used. but it will dull quickly if you use it for moving rocks, finding pipes, and landscaping.

I've always swung them around and used an angle grinder on mine...Never had a balance problem.. just don't go crazy with the grinder.. just reshape back to a good inclined plane with a thin edge.. doesn't need to be razor sharp.. and if it is.. it will fold over to easy anyway.. remember you are cutting brush and rocks.. etc... anything other than a 1/8 inch rounded flat is gonna cut grass..

Ryan. Some sharpen them with an angle grinder without removing the blades from the hog. I take them off, sharpen them on a bench grinder, weigh them so they are balanced properly. Your choice. Ron
