Lift Arm Problem?

Worked the 8N all day long -- no problems at all, but when I cleaned it off I found a problem. The left lower lift arm pivot(drive) shaft was loose. We both put in a full day, so I was to tired to check in the book - but how big a problem do I have? The nut was still torqued on the shaft, but the shaft was so loose it wobbled -- everything seems to have been working ok. Any ideas? Will it simply thread back into the housing?

Ruint..... ..if'n yer talkin' bout those heavy forged lift-arms under yer butt-buckett, they are mounted on a splined shaft by a 2-bolt stop-washer scheme. The splined shaft is supported in yer hydraulic cover plate by replaceable sleeves.

But if'n yer talkin' bout the more common problem of wobbley lower 3-point link pins bolted thru yer axle trumpets, you'll haffta remove the trumpet to tighen the cotter-keyed castelated nut inside to 150 ft/lbs..... ....Dell

It's the ones that are on the lift shaft. Could a bushing have broken? Or is it more likely that the stop washer - 2 bolt assembly came undone. Dread the thought of opening the hydraulics up.

Post a pic of it for us.. but if the 2 bolts came out.. you would know it.

The bushings do wear out..

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess I looked at this Sunday afternoon "way to quickly" and after a "barley-pop" or two. It's the more common problem you mentioned within the trumpet. Is that as straight forward a job as the book says? Looks like it will be pretty simple, but with some heavy lifting.

If you have the manual, and the gasket, etc.. and a strong back /friends helping ( block / tackle or cherry picker? ) should be straight forward.. that said.. you never know what you will find inside..

Might be a good time to change the rear end oil and clean the sumps while you have that trumpet off and you can get in there with a sprayer...
