Hey guys,
my 41 9N isn't running. It was converted to 12V
(not by me) and has an alternater. This is what I've got:
No spark
Good Ignition switch
12v to both sides of the 12-6v resister & frying hot. (What's that all about?)
12v to both sides of the Ford resister (What's that all about?) about 2v to the old 6v front coil. Any suggestions before I throught out everything and start over with:
12V front coil with ballister
can the old resister(s)
rewire from the new ballister to the new 12v coil just in case there is a short.
Really had it with dealing piece meal with all
this old electrical junk.

Recheck. You can't have 12V at both sides of both resistors and then 2V at the coil as one of the resistors is connected to the coil and should give the same reading.

Like David said.. recheck, and repost.. then we will get down to business.

Ideally.. you should have about 4.5 volts on the top of the coil with the points closed.. and battery volts with the points open. If your resisotrs are hot.. you may have a short somewhere..not letting volts get to the coil.

You may be ably to run a bypass.. That is come from the battery + to ballast resistor.. then to the 12to6v resistor.. then to the coil.. run new wires as a test.. just disconnect the old wires and let them lay.. Make you checks again on that setup.

Shotgun parts replacement can be expensive and frustrating. Lets take a closer look. First, you said that it is not running. Has it been running recently or are we looking at a machine that has been sitting for some time? The 12V on both sides of the resistor is consistant with no current going through the resistor, therefore no voltage "drop". (Open circuit somewhere). However, the 12V on both sides of the same resistor is not consistant with it being "frying hot". How are you measuring the voltage? You should measure between one side of the resistor and ground. Then measure from the other side of the resistor to ground. Using ground as a reference, also measure at the top of the coil. Repost your findings. There are quite a few people on this board that have a good understanding of your electrical system. Ask specific questions and you will be rewarded with a running tractor. Patience is the key. Good Luck with it.
