Sleeves too small

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine in my 2N. The machine shop measured the sleeves and said I need the .90's. So in my rebuild kit, I ordered the .90 sleeves along with all the other parts in the comprehensive kit. Took it to the machine shop to have the sleeves put in, the machine shop called me today and said that the sleeves just slipped right into the block with no pressure at all. They said they were not happy with this situation. Nor am I....It appears that the block has NOT been bored out larger...and the old sleeves that were removed were 90's....has anyone had this happen to them? I called ATS were I ordered my kit, he told me he has had this happen before....he told me to have the machine shop order my sleeves to fit into my block & match up with the new pistons from the kit (that he would refund me on the sleeves from the kit). Can anyone elaborate on this for me? I thought I had done my homework and this project was going to be a success without much discouragement.

Thanks,
Roper Bob

The shop that bored it in the past may have gone too far and had to put custom sleeves in.

Did the machinest measure the bore and the OD of the sleeve to determine which was wrong?

It may be that the aftermarket sleeves are made wrong. I am almost positive that is the case if the ones that came out were OK.

Also I have seen some machinest try to bore the old sleeves out and he may have made too big a cut himself and the bore is not too big.

If the sleeves still are pretty snug in the block it is possible to use the newer "red" high temperature "Lock Tite" on the sleeves and use them like they are. This is really all depending on the tolerances. I dont think I would try it if there were as much as .005 over size in the block.

First I would determine the OD of the new sleeves to be sure they are made right.
