Fuel filter locations

I'd been led to believe that there were three screen-type fuel filters on my 2N. I found the one at the inlet to the carb and the big one inside the sediment bowl. I thought there was supposed to be one inside the fuel tank, but after I drained the tank and removed the sediment bowl, I found nothing that resembled a filter in there. Did mine get removed somewhere along the way, or would a '43 2N not have this filter? If it should have it, exactly where is it and what does it look like?

It probably rotted away after all these years. Go the Tractor Supply to see what it looks like. It is not replaceable you need a new unit with the sediment bowl attached. Not expensive.

The in tank fuel screen is a cylinder
that sticks up into the fuel tank.
Here is a URL of a picture of one on eBay.

Excellent. Thanks for the photo. So this filter is similar to the one that sticks into the carb, right?

The sediment bowl pictured appears to be a newer design than the one I've got. On mine, there's an adapter between the sediment bowl and the threaded fitting under the gas tank. I assume that this filter, if I ever had one, was attached to this adapter. There's no sign whatsoever that a filter used to be attached to this adapter. Perhaps the adapter replaced the old filter when the filter got damaged once upon a time.

This, combined with my need for a drain petcock, seems to indicate a trip way across town to TSC is in order.

One observation that I've made and never seen mention of is that the filter in the tank that you are referring to really has no effect on fuel flow except when the valve is in the reserve position. At all other times and fuel levels, the fuel is pulled unfiltered through the copper standpipe in the center of the filter when the fuel valve is only open to the "RUN" position. When the valve is turned to the reserve position, fuel is pulled in right at the base of the assembly. The filter merely keeps trash floating around the bottom of the tank from accumulating around and blocking the reserve fuel port.
