Phil, My 48 8N was making blue smoke when I got it too. I drained the oil and refilled, replacing one quart of oil with Marvel Mystery Oil. I was skeptical to say the least, but it made a big difference for me. No more blue smoke, I haven't redone the compression test, but she runs real nice now. You may want to try it as a temporary fix.
John

Blue smoke, bad rings, STP oil treatment could help as a bandaid, I see a ringjob or better yet a good overhaul in your near future .

Phil..... ..I don't know why you would think your carb has ennythang to do with your engine burning blue oil smoke unless you're using oil instead of gasoline.

Worn-out engine piston rings burn blue oil smoke. To verify, do the dreaded "compression test". Ford specs: 90 psi min (dry). Crank'er for 5 puffs min and write the answer down. Then squirt about 1 oz of oil down the sparkie hole and do another compression test and writter down. If'n compression increased over 20 psi, probably gottsa tired engine and maybe a canidate for rebuild..... ....respectfully, Dell

Some times it's had to tell blue smoke from black smoke if you have not seen it several times. Do the compression test. If the compression is low chances are you are burning oil and the smoke is blue. The plugs should have a black gunk on them. However, if the compression is good then most likely you screwed up the carburetor adjustment and it is to rich. The smoke is then black. The plugs should have black soot on them.
