11002 is the basic Ford part # for starters starting for sure in 1928 and possibly before.
I thought but don't know that the Funk starter was special for some reason.

Mark..... ...yer not the first person to come looking for 6-cyl FUNK starter. (check archives) Because the N-tranny starter hole is on the LEFT side and the regular flathead 6-cyl starter is on the right side; My take is Funk used some sorta starter extension housing to make the regular longshaft N-Starter work the 6-cyl flywheel. This is speculation on my part because I don't know fer certain. I do know I've seen a special "FUNK" lable cast starter adaptor.

I lost my "bookmark" but some outfit is selling "Nippondenso" starters for various Ford engines including the flathead V-8's, 6-cyl and N's tractor. (do a google search) This adaptor makes the starter engage the flywheel from the front instead of being "sucked-up" into the flywheel like you know how the N-Starter bendix does..... ....I wish you well, Dell

Yes there is a Cast extention for the starter. I belive it is a regular starter but with that extention on it. I saw a picture of one with some kind of a extention. Funny part is I had a Funk but could not memorize all the parts to it. I should check my pictures but not sure I had a starter close up. Mark H.

This is the starter with the extension. Looks like part number N58-2. Good luck...

The 6 cyl flathead starter is available in two shaft lengths ( 5.3 or 5.75 inches ), depending on the application. This funk pic does not appear to be either

I also have a Funk 6 cyl on a 2N. I have the starter, but it needs to be rebuilt. Does anyone know who might rebuild one?

Mark, I have done lotsa research since I bought that Funk from you and turned up a lot of good stuff. Take a look at the pic here, although the part number is listed (11002), I dont think its a complete Ford # but its a durn good start. I will send you the links that I have turned up over the past 8 months or so, via email. Hope all is well with the family, the tractor is great...and a whole lot quieter now!!! Man that was a loud bugger!! Take care!

Has anyone ever come up with a solution for this starter application?
Is the original 8N starter the same with a different extension on it? Will any other starters fit the tractor?

Does the starter for the original flathead 6 cylinder fit the tractor?

Thanks,
Tom

Glad you solved the exsaust problem and the Funk is working out good! Family is doing just fine. I am allmost ready to work for the forestry fighting fires this year with my Water Tender. It is being inspected Monday and that is the last thing to compete! I will look for that link. Thanks, Mark H.
