Anyone know off hand if you can free range chickens on ground that has had Diazinon granules spread on it?
I have search google and can not find a reliable statement

For nearly every problem supposedly 'solved' with a chemical, you can find a better solution using an organic product.

I don't know what you are trying to fix or cure with the Diazinon, but you do have other choices that are better for you and the chickens.

I'm not a recent convert to the organic stuff, nor am I a tree hugger from downtown San Francisco. I use it because I have learned for myself that it works better than anything made by Scotts or any other chemical fertilizer or pesticide.

Here are some good organic Web sites to check out:

www.garden-ville.com

www.dirtdoctor.com

Go to the Organic Information Center, and find your subject listed alphabetically. Go to the links section to go to other sites. By the way, his links will take you to places where you can find things the chemical companies will NEVER tell you.

For example, did you know there is arsenic and lead in the product called IRONITE, which is sold in nearly all of the big box stores? (Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc.) Did you know there are lawsuits against the company that makes it in several states?

Good luck.

I ain't yet, and really did not intend to unless I could verify it as safe. (kinda like they used to spray us kids with DDT back in the 50s :-)
I prefer to free range and not use it if I can get by. But them chicks better be hungry cause we normally have lots-o-ticks
I wonder why there is not a LOT of information or warnings about it?

I'd have to agree... let it ran good after the granuals are down.. or otherwise let them sit over a month... chickens hone in on granuals/pellets ( chicken feed look-alike ).

Keep in mind for next time that if you are gonna let your chickens free-range in an area.. you don't need to treat it.. they will eat just about everything except ants.

If you have bad ants, go to the farm store and grab a container of powdered permectrin ( permethrin based ) dust.. will be labeled cattle dust / livestock dust.. etc. In the fine print, it shows what you can/can't use it on.. most are decent on all standing animals except horses, and even mention foul / ducks.. as the dust is a great way to control foul mites / lice. A word of caution on the ducks though.. the dust is poisonous to fish and invertabrates..

Whenever i setup a new coop, etc.. I always dust the area... it pretty much decimates things within 5 minutes.. ants too.. Just sprinkle a decent amount around the hole.. then agitate it a bit with a piece of long grass.. get them stirred up good.. the dust sticks to them, and they run it around all over the nest inside and out... in about 5 minutes.. no more ants in that spot..

i don't put anything on the ground you don't want them to eat. if it is a granule - they will eat it. if it is a spray, they will eat what was sprayed. so you'll have to coop/yard them until the granule or spray is gone.

Sound like a good opportunity to maybe get some double headed or 3 legged chickens.

Well, this might not be any more reliable than a Google search. But I would say if it was daizinon spray, not granules, I would say you would be O.K. after a few good rain storms. But those darn chickens will find and snap-up those granules, and those granules will hold diazinon a long time. I've heard 30 days or more.... Yeah, I would'nt recommend eat'n the chickens or the eggs either.
