You won't find a better source for the info you need than this forum.I strongly suggest you use it and forget the books.I have never seen any book that is available in todays market that didn't have some things screwed up.So, before you spend your dollars, ask this forum.IMHO don b

I don't know about the originality stuff.. but I'm sure someone here will.. but for the mechanical restoration.. go grab a copy of the I&T FO-4 service manual, might not hurt to get an 8n owners/operators manual, and a Master parts catalog.. lots of info in those three books ofr operation, R&R and diagrams so you can see what goes where and how it comes apart.. etc.

Whereas the F0-4 manual provides some useful pictures and parts breakdowns in the back, i have found the technical information to be quite lacking in my opinion. But fear not! That's where this board kicks it up a notch [BAM!]. We are here to answer those tough to understand technical questions that have been left vauge in the F0-4. I would recommend getting the Ford N-series tractor Originality Guide (avialable at Barnes and Noble among other reputable bookstores) as a guide for what was and was NOT original. I reference it a lot. I guess the short answer is BOTH!

I agree that the Ford N-series Originality Guide is pretty good, but I have found several mistakes in this book as well. A nice 8N with 6 loop aftermarket rims is not a fully restored tractor IMO. If you are a true restorer (which I am not), you will need to pull your information from several sources and quite a few old original pictures. There are some great production line pics and Press photos out there that show quite a bit. I try to get mine close, but don't go all out like some do.

Good luck,
Dan
