Alternator Not Charging??

I have just recently (before winter) rewired my 12V sytem on my NAA tractor and replaced alternator, the whole works. It is what I would call a one wire system with a light in circuit that would go out after a good rev and then system would start charging. Today when I cranked up for first time this spring (after I had to charge the totally dead battery overnight?) she started OK except the little light wouldn't go out and I never could show a charge an ammeter. The system worked fine before when I installed it last fall. I tried several times to get the little light to go off and start charging. Where would you guys suggest to start looking? All the wires seem to still be good and tight. Any diagnostic help would be appreciated. Thinking my fairly new rebuilt alternator has died on me.

Alternators create a magnetic field when charging and the easiest way to check is to place a screw driver or wrench up against the back of the alternator...if it sticks to it, it is working.

Is this a delco alternator?

You say you are calling it a 1 wire system.,. but is there anything else hooked up.. sense wire? etc.. If so what is it hooked to.
