hydraulic circuit question, 3 way or 4 way valve

Question(s) pertain to Paulson FEL

I read or heard somewhere I can run a hose from my test port to a 3 position open center hyd valve, set the position ctrl lever all the way back/up, then run the outlet back through a modified fill transmission/hyd cover. Then the 2n's pump is always just pumping and not going over 2n's relief valve in pump.

I have a 3 position 4way valve with a port blocked to make a 3way. Works fine for pressurizing cylinders, and in the center position oil is pumped back through cap. All is good.

But, when the lever on this valve is pushed for cylinders to come down under gravity, the 2n's pump is blocked from pumping which would cause the 2n relief valve to "unseat". Or is it going o go over the valves internal relief valve?

Either way, is it good to have the oil pumping over either relief valve??

Is there a 3 position hydaulic valve that could solve this problem differnetly?

I read you don't want to continously use the relief valve on the 2n's for some reason.

This is being used for a Paulson FEL with 2 single acting cylinders.

Any ideas or info would be helpful please??

Instead of plugging the "down" port on your valve, plumb it into the return line. The relief valve won't come into play.
