Lets see. crazy fixes from when i was a teenager and had beater cars.. I once got run off the road, and deffinately felt oil pan to curb contact.. on inspection, I had a 1/8inch stream o' oil from a hole in the pan... I used a big screw and a piece of rubber and a pair of vicegrips to fix the hole... that lasted for years.... Lets see... I lost the bolt out of my - battery post clamp one time, and apparently it had been that way for a while.. ate a good portion of the post of .. virtually melted it away. Of course this only became a problem untill I drove a ways from the house in the middle of now where to go fishing.. No cranky.. just clicked. I used a penny wedged inbetween the remnant of the post and hte clamp to make up the space.. and I believe that very same pair of vice grips held all that together till I got to the house... Anothe rtime in a pontic sunbird, i went over to my friends house and I pulled up in his yard and shifted to park.. only tranny would go into park.. I found out the linkage ends at the tranny were plastic.. and died... My friend and I used a coat hanger.. and fixed it a bit.. and then drove to the local upul and save.. and salvaged some metal linkage parts from a sunbird station wagon.... Lets see.. I've made an alternator bracket out of rope... Budy had an early model gm car.. and the alternator top bracket went south.. threw the belt.. I forget what else was on that belt.. but we needed it anyway... The alternator still pivoted onthe bottom.. just nothing to hold tension against the belt.. a few pieced of rope over to the fender side of hte engine compartment worked reasonable well... I'm not sure.. but I kinda remember a pair of vice grips NOT being available then.. or we might have found a way to use them! I won't even go into all the marginal electrical repairs I've made on auto's along the way... gosh.. I better stop.. I think I'm going to get embarrised talking about my youthfull improvised repairs I've made.. Soundguy
