9N tractor..had generator tested as ok..had starter rebuilt....charged up a 4 yr old battery that has been in it...started up and ran for 20 minutes....motor shut down and would not even turn over. Went back next day started with a lucky groan. Voltage regulater is -10 at high rev....lowest rev it is center lined to almost + side.

Do some checking.. these machines were 6v positive ground when they left the factory.. did you hook the genny back up and polarize the cutout Did you hook the battery back up the correct polarity? Did you accidentally charge the battery reverse polarity?

Did you replace the ammeter or remove the ammeter wire fromt he ammeter loop?

What does a volt meter say on the charging issue.

Also.. 4 year is on its last leg as it is.. if it has been dead for a while.. it will probably be again soon.

Let us know what you find.
