154 PTO Clutch

Just acquired Cub 154 with a "took apart" PTO clutch. I'm guessing that the parts to make this thing well will be very costly.
It looks to me like I could weld the drive shaft solid and eliminate the clutch and then build a spring loaded, lever actuated belt tensioner (replacing the factory clevis and screw arrangement) at the front end that would work quite well as a PTO clutch.
Anyone ever done this or have thoughts about my idea?

I can't explain why/how this happened- I thought I was on the Cub Lowboy discussion forum. Sorry for the intrusion.
