hello all, I am thinking about having an auction to sell some of my collection, the tractors are in different states of repair,(or disrepair depending on your outlook) but most are complete.I have around 30 tractors, about 12 are running, 10 will run with a little help, and the rest are almost complete parts tractors,(also these are in upstae NY so all suggestions may not apply), this being said, when in your opinion would be the best time , to draw the best crowd to an auction, would you say early spring, mid summer,or in the fall?? It is a huge decision to make, and putting all your eggs in one basket is kinda scary,, plus now I am looking at it in a sellers view as opposed to a buyers,, hahaha,,thanks for the help, another question would these tractors that are not running but complete sell at a decent price? depending on shape I know but now I am just rambling, thanks for your opinion.pat

You could take them to a consignment auction. In Upstate NY, Roy Teitsworth holds a huge one every spring (Tomorrow, in fact). Everything sells, and the croud is large, so the prices are good (for the seller, anyways).

If that's not practical, he'll come right to your place, and do an auction right there.

I get all my used implements that way, and I sell a few that way, too.

Tomorrow at the auction, I'll be the guy in muddy Carharts, bidding on Ford/Ferg 3 point implements. In the crowd of 10,000 folks, you can't miss me. :)

Email me your phone # and I will call, I think I have a few ideas for you. I am a person who goes to several auction a year, from farm auction to large comm auction with 300-400 tractors. Where are you in NY ? I am in 1000 Island - St. Lawrence region. Burt.

Here's my take on the parts tractors.

A burned tractor goes for 100-300.. and a non-burned parts might get 500$.. maybee a tad more if it is a complete tractor and/or has good options.. but stuck or otherwise not running. Once you get 750 and up.. I've seen some 'runs w/ problems' or just plain runs but worn slap out' tractors. wheel-less Carcass's ( chassie only ) go for 100 or less.

Wow.. I've seen at least three people inthe last 2 days on a couple different boards post that they are selling their tractor(s) for some reason or another...

Yikes.. hope everything is ok..

Thanks for the input, I appreciate the come back, all is well here < I bit off more than I could chew, due to an accident I had , I will never get to most of these tractors to enjoy, so figured someone else could, that being said I am not selling my whole collection ,I still have 4 N's a john deere,a ford super major, and a few others I am keeping along with my farming tractors,, things change and you go with the way life is, thanks for the concern too,pat

Pat,

Here's what worked out for me. I had dozers, backhoes, trucks, etc. to sell at auction when I retired 5 years ago. I put some of my really nice antiques on the sale bill, but with high reserves. I figured that the pictures would look good in the brochure and help bring a good crowd. The auctioneers agreed. It worked. The funny thing... the antiques sold for double the reserve, and everything else brought more than I had invested. :-)

Let the auctioneers have a crack at the ones you want to keep... you'll attract a better crowd with more money than the junk would. You can always be high bidder.

My auction was on July 3, 1999.
