I posted on April 17th concerning a stuck rear axle bolt on my 9N. The rear axle bolt is stripped and I can't get the lug nut to stay on. One suggestion was to grind off the bolt and pound out the remainder of the axle bolt. I not only ground off the axle bolt, I also ground off the head of the bolt. I also drilled a 1/4" diameter hole through the remainder of the bolt. Using a drift pin/punch I have pounded the crap out of the bolt but I still can't get it to budge. I am very frustrated. Any suggestions? Would heating it with a small Bernzomatic propane torch do anything? I really don't want to end up taking it to a machine shop to drill out the bolt. Thanks.

Bob..... ..a drilled 1/4" thru hole might not be enuff pressure relief onna hammer swollen and rusted 5/8" axle bolt. Also use a bigger hammer. I have a 4 lb shorty sledgehammer for stubborn stuff. I get much better pounding control with a short handle, my wrist doesn't flop around so much..... ...Dell

Thanks. BIG hammer with a BIG backswing got the bolt out.
