I've noticed a loss of power in general and it is especially pronounced when going up any incline. I need to brush hog up some steep slopes so yesterday took the tractor up one slope without hog to see if it would make it. Started shooting out spurts of white-grey smoke. It would build up pressure, then it would release a spurt of smoke that would hang in the air, then another a few seconds later then another. It barely made it to the top. It also isn't hogging on flat ground like it should. My compression runs in the 90's on all four, new points, rotor, cap and plugs this spring. Wires 3 yrs old. Prior to the hill test I had removed the plugs and cleaned them. Sediment bowl cleaned in spring. Starts easy and idles smooth. Any suggestions other than an engine rebuild?

My compression is in the lower 70's and i have all the power i need to bush hog or pull the only plow i have at the moment which is a 3-14.And not enough smoke to bother with rebuild. Sounds like gas or something not right with fireing....

Sounds like water in the gas. take the plug out of the bottom of the carburator and catch what comes out in a glass jar,I'd bet theres some water there and when you go up hill it sucks it up to burn it.I'd clean the sediment bown also,do it the same way, pour it into something where you can inspect the contents. Try adding some heat into the gas tank afterwards

"Try adding some heat into the gas tank afterwards"...

GEEZ !!!!! Just for the uninitiated, let's make it REALLY, REALLY CLEAR that you mean the "heat" in a bottle (like isopropyl alcohol) and not heat from a flame. Stranger things have happened than for someone to take advice literally.

Just me being a little over-cautious.....

I used to use alcohol to trap tank moisture in a boat with a built in fuel tank.

One day I was screaming across the lake and came to an abrupt halt; engine died, clunk. Lots of troubleshooting discovered this gooey blob in the fuel line that was so thick it completely clogged the fuel flow.

Used to dilute my windshield washer fluid with water to make it go farther and didn't need all that much antifreeze.

Washer clogged up one day..... goey blob clogged it up.

If you do use alci you will have a blob somewhere if there is moisture to be captured.
