Another question: On my mower, the 2 pieces that connect to the list arms are loose. (what are those pieces called?) They are connected with what looks like castle nuts on the thread side. I can't seem to get the nut to tighten. The other end that the has the hole in them keeps slipping in whatever I use to grab it. Whatever I put through the hole on the end to help tighten it gets bent up and/or broken.

KS..... ....the 2-pieces that your tractor lower lift arm balls connect to on your mower are called, (are you ready for this?) lift-pins. And your little ringy-thingys that fit in the little hole in the lift pin to keep your lower lift arms attached to the lift pins are called linch-pins.

Sometimes you need a "washer" to prevent the lift-pin castelated nut from bottoming out on its threads. Iff'n the nut bottoms out before it tightens on the mower frame, you'll NEVER get it tight-enuff to hold still. I have a long tapered punch for leverage that I insert in the lift-pin linch-pin hole to hold the pin from turning while I draw-up the castelated nut tight. The lift-pin castelated nut should be torqued to at least 150 ft/lbs. Even tighter is ok to gitt the cotterpin hole to line-up with the castelated nut slots..... .....respectfully, Dell

Who came up with a stupid name like lift pins for those things? Probably some old latin word, I guess.

Soak the nuts with a good penetrant for a day or two, and then hold a large hammer against one side of the nut, sort of like an anvil, and smack the opposite side with a smaller hammer, working your way around the flats, and continuing to apply penetrating oil. You'll soon get it loose in this manner.
