According to the catalogs on the internet 2nd gear for my 8n should have 56 teeth, which mine has. The second countershaft gear should have l7 teeth. Mine has 18. DO I HAVE A PROBLEM??
I need to order 2nd gear, the 2nd gear countershaft and the countershaft. My local New Holland dealer wants $466 for these three items which is about $200 more than I can get them off the internet. Is there a quality problem here??

That sounds like a lot of money for the second gears from the Ford dealer. I am still thinking in terms of when I sold them at a dealership for $10 though 40 years ago.

Second gear is the weak link in the Ford Four speed transmission as you have found out. If you plan on doing much bush hogging in second gear you may want to go with the Ford parts. That is if they are still American made. If they are forein made too though you would be just as well off with the ones made in India.

Really Zane my main question was why my gear had 18 teeth instead of 17. Really appreciate your answers. I can't remember who, but someone told me to contact you when I need some real input.

I think you'll find that New Hollands prices are usually way more than other suppliers.
