Twelve volt, front mount 2N
Today: Another starter bindix. The one replaced recently broke spring after stalling today.
Very Recent last week: Rebuilt carb, new points, condensor, and roto, cleaned dist. weights, checked and reset timing, cleaned all screens, and new plugs. Recently six months: new clutch. ring gear, starter, and bendix, ignition switch, new head gasket, heat gage, new head bolts, and manafold gasket. TODAY IT STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY, AND I STARTED CUTTING GRASS. IT STALLED ON INCLINE AND I THOUGHT IT WAS GETTING LOW ON FUEL, AND ADDED ABOUT FIVE GALLONS. IT STARTED AND I RESUMED CUTTING FOR ABOUT FIVE MINITES AND IT STOPPED. I TRIED TO START AND IT DESTROYED THE BENDIX ON THE NEW STARTER. REPLACED BENDIX AND IT WANTED TO START AND CHUGGED FOR A FEW SECONDS, STOPPED, AND DIED.
I TRIED TO CHECK THE SPARKS IN A RAIN DOWNPOUR
AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING ANY.
COULD IT BE THE IGNIGION SWITCH AGAIN, 12VOLT FRONT COIL, AND/OR SOMETHING IN THE DISTRIBUTOR I REPLACED LAST WEEK?
SORRY IF I SOUND ^*^%$* OFF, BUT IT IS STARTING TO GET TO ME..... .....
PLEASE HELP

Hey Russ, it ran for five minutes which could be a bad front mount coil overheating or a carb bowl of gas. Did you run 5 minutes before it first stalled on the 'incline'? Anyway, it wouldn't but 'chug for a few seconds' there at the end so if it's the carb it must be empty. If it still just 'chugs' then pull the plug out of the bottom of the carb. If there's no gas in there you need to start with the carb elbow screen and work back to the tank to find the restriction. You need a 'full pipe flow' out the end of the fuel line to the carb.
If the fuel is good flow then it's gonna be the coil fails-after-five-minutes thing. Doesn't sound like that because now it just 'chugged for a few seconds.'
Did you know that the tank gas valve is three position? One, full closed. Two, 2-turns open leaves one gallon reserve in the tank. Three, full-open releases the one gallon reserve so you can get back to the barn before you run plumb out of gas. Normal run at 2-turns open not full-open. I like to clean my sediment bowl twice a year or so and I open the valve full open to run gas out the bottom of the tank to remove moisture and dirt. I have the sediment bowl off to clean and I open the valve full open and right away back closed. Just to keep the tank 'fresh.'
That 2-turns open comes in handy when I'm mowing the road ditch and I 'run out' of gas because the gas is in one side of the tank. I reach over, open the valve full open, start her up, and remember to mow the ditch with the right wheels low not the left.
