"Old Glory" sat idle for about six months. When I started her, oil and blue smoke was blasting out of the oil filler tube.

What would be causing this???? Never did it before.

Ray..... ...sittin' fer 6 months can cause sticky rings and attentant bluesmoke "blow-by". While it will eventually "cure itself", help-itt.

I suggest you consider the merits of a Marvel Mystery Oil treatment (read instructions) down yer sparkie holes for a couple of days to un-gumb yer rings. Run yer engine and thourghly warm up the engine oil and change oil and filter to quality modern 20-50wt oil..... ...respectfully, Dell

Hey old buddy, since you gave a plug for MMO, would you mind elaborating on your feelings.

I buy it by the gallon and put it in all my stuff as an upper cyl lube and injector cleaner. Don't put in cc as I feel oils pretty well take care of that.

Balls in your court,

Thanks,

Mark

MMO's a decent solvent.. generally good for penetrating and loosening stuck rings and valves.

Adding mmo down the spark plug holes to 'soak' and applied liberally to the valves, and inthe first 'run' oil on an engine that has sat for a long time is a pretty good way to easy it back into service. Just remember that it is a solvent.. and not made to run in the CC all the time.. just when you need it to loosen things up... that first oil should be changed after a few hours.. filter too.

when adding it don the spark plug holes.. let it set for a day or more.. and then before you throw the plugs back in.. run the engine around with the starter or by hand to blow any excess out the holes so you don't hydrolock it..
