I have a 51 8n. When I try to cut my fields in position control mode, I set the mower for about a six inch cut. After just a minute or so the lift comes up about a foot off the ground all by itself. It works fine in draft mode. What would cause this. Thanks for any help.

Probably something binding in the linkage.

Sometimes the link that holds the position mode aparatus will get so worn at the end where it is suspended that the link can rub against the side of the differential housing just under the lift housing. This same condition can cause the cam follower pin (dowel) to slip off the side of the cam or bind with it is about to slip off the side of the cam.

In my adjusting jig kit I include a slightly longer cam follower pin than the original Ford part to help prevent this happening after it is adjusted. The link can also be bent so that it rides more onto the cam and further away from the side of the housing to prevent it's binding.
