I saw that Northern Tool has a 30" rear scoop for $189. It fits a class 1-2. Is that too big or should I go for the smaller size, 24"? That is the cheapest I have seen them anywhere. Is Howse a good brand? Any experience w/ Northern Tool?

Well, after getting my pins turned around, I have to say that the 30" is a good fit. I moved a good bit of soil yesterday and will try moving some grade 9 road base today.

For all the smoking and sputtering my tractor does, she didn't hestitate lifting once.

Dell was right - a very useful implement!

Are all scoops dumpable from the seat?

Most have a hole in the trip lever to attach a rope. Check the archives some guys have devised more elaborate cable/pulley setups to dump from the seat.

Yeah, thats a good scoop and a good price BUT....
Check out Northern Tools shipping prices, for the price of shipping added in you kin git it cheaper at your local TSC Got mine at TSC And a 30incher works just fine on my 8N. Like Dell sez"your dollar your call"

I have been looking around thinking about getting a dirt scoop. The only problem I see with the Northern Tool scoop is that it is not reversable.

If you want one of the best go to a New Holland and buy a Ford design scoop. They are pricy but superior to the KK and Howse. My Kubota L245 easily handles a 24" and would also handle a 30".
I feel my 8N would also handle a 30".

If you have a local TSC.. check their prices. They carry KK and it is around the same quality as howse.

30" is fine... I even used a 30" on a smaller jap tractor... just point the lift pins in.

Get the 30". Less trips to the dirtpile. I have a 24", if I can find a used 30" I'll get rid of the 24". Well, maybe I'll keep it for barditch cleanout, repair,etc....(%^). I don't want to get in the habit of getting rid of implements. I sold a 4' finish mower already this year.

I agree with Don.A 24 is a little small. In my opinion the 30 Inch is just right.I saw that one in Northern tool and it seems to be a pretty good buy...Good Luck..... R.M. in AL.

I just bought a Howse. Paid $240 for it locally. I emailed Howse to get a list of local distributors - and bought it locally. Incidentally Howse also pointed me to Northern - so the Northern is a Howse also - and yes it is reversable - you just have to unhitch and turn it around.

Used it for moving 1/5" round smooth rock - about 9 yards last weekend - sure glad I had it. Backed into the pile and get about the amount you could hall in wheelbarrow - but much less effort and a lot faster. Tried digging with it and it likes to dig - no problem on loading it up heaped.

Howse seams to be decently built - at least for this level of work.

I'd get the 30" - fully filled level with rock - the old 3 point can just lift it.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Can you dump it from the seat or do you have to get off?
