I may have found why my '49N won't go into 2nd gear..
The shifter rail for the counter shaft will not slide back far enough to shift into 2nd gear.
Could it be hitting the Howard?
Does anyone know if the rail was to be cut during the install?
Thanks for any help, Ron

The Howard Reduction Gear is installed in the differential case behind the transmission. I don't believe the shift rail could possibly come in contact with the Howard unit. The problem must be due to something else.

I split the tractor and the Howard is not lined up correctly, so the shift rail "is" hitting the under drive unit.

Tomorrows job is to unbolt the unit and see if I can get it aligned correctly.

Wish me luck!
