I have a box blade that my tractor picks up great at first..... . the more I use it the weaker my hydraulics get..if I let the tractor set for a little bit the Hydraulics start working again....same thing with my disk only I don't get as much work time in before I have to let it set....also when the hydraulics start getting weak if I speed the motor up they work a little longer

Since you have a piston pump it is most likely that you have an internal leak or leaks. The most common places that are going to leak are the relief valve, the ram cylinder rings or the gasket between the ram cylinder and the lift housing.

Ray, dont know for sure , sounds like your pump housing might have a crack in it, water gets into the system and freezes ( happened to me on my 8N , most of the time the crack is in a bad place and cant be welded, wish I had better news for you , good luck . Pump housings are a big buck item .

RAY - Some have found improved "hydraulics" performance by switching from 134 back to the earlier recommended 90W. NAPA part number for 5 gallon pail is < #65-205 >. Might be worth a try.

AFAIK, only the 9n/2n/8n specidied the 90w oil in the hyds/diffy common sump.. the NAA has a seperate hyd sump.. and does specify a thinner oil..

I chalk it up to fast fingers.. and we all get them regaurdless of age..

Thinking about it.. it would be easy to mix up.. as I'm sure when the NAA came out, the 90wt mineral oil was still specced for the diffy... and with all those N owners out their since 1939... I'm sure more than a couple still used the thicker oil.. ( and probably dind't even think about it or realize it untill cold weather / slow lift.. etc.

have a good one

Ray,

Sounds like a typical weak pump. As the hydraulic fluid heats up, the pump begins to fail. Do you still have the vane style pump or the piston pump? Vane pumps are tough to rebuild correctly. Not cheap either. Piston Pumps can be rebuilt easily and inexpensively. I had the same problem on my Jubilee with a vane pump. I put on a used vane pump ($250.00), and crossed my fingers. Wow what a difference it made. I lucked out and got a good used pump. Piston pumps cost more than that and you need to replace the hydraulic lines. Before spending money on pumps though, you should do a complete visual inspection of the hydraulic cylinder to see if there are any problems there.

Sounds like your whole hydraulic system needs to be evaluated. What kind of hydraulic fluid are you using? Has it been replaced recently? Have the lift cylinder and piston ever been rebuilt?

I am guessing you have just enough leakage past your hydraulic piston that while it WILL lift when the fluid is cold (thicker), it will no longer do so when the fluid has heated up (thinner).

Give us some more details and I am sure some of the real experts here will jump in.

I am using the 134 hyd oil....changed it last week....put gasket and o ring on the lift piston.....and did the control adjustments...all this got the system working good till it heats up.....
