Anybody wanna translate "approved" in the below context? (Besides our past president.) Locally, I can get some "trans/hydraulic" oil that is "a replacement for" M2C134D. Neither says "meets" or "exceeds" the specs for 134. Sorry 'bout the green thing reference. It was part of what I cut and pasted.

Mobilfluid 424 is approved against specifications: - John Deere Quatrol®, J20A, J20C
- Ford New Holland M2C134D

Dell: You give a lot of good advice, but I was thinking this generic might have too much zinc for an 2- 8- 9N. And this guy is in So. California. With an old Ford in this hot climate I would suggest 90W gear oil, just like the old operator's manual suggests. Here in the snowbelt with good, restored hydraulic systems I for the general recommendation of NH 134. Mike-Iowa

What is the correct oil. I have heard 90 weight gear oil, and one old farmer said it took 50 weight mineral oil. Whats up with that!!!

Dell,
Me thinks your keen analysis is on the mark.
Right now, I'm searching for an excuse to use 90 weight 'cause of the heat we're lookin' at come summer here in the desert. The other little fact is, it's gonna take at least that long for me to get the trans, hydro and differential "re-gasketed," at which time I can change my mind and opt for the 134.
Makes sense to me.
Russ
