Got a passle of stuff....

Bought a late model 8n today and a passle of other stuff in the deal including HD trailer, bushhog, smoothing harrow, B&B harrow, HD box blade, 3 pt. cultivators, boom pole, drawbar all for less than the value of the trailer. Owner said 8n reared up with him a couple of years ago and when the front end came down hard something popped and oil pressure died.He immediately shut tractor off. He believes oil pickup arm broke. My question for the experts: I know I have to remove front axle and front support apparatus to get oil pan off. Shouldn't this be all I have to remove to get to oil pump and remove it and have the pickup arm brazed? Your usual expert response is awaited. Thanks.

The oil pickup tube can be brazed or silver soldered. Just make sure it is located correctly first. If that is all you find wrong be sure to get some oil to the bearings before you start that thing. IMHO, you would be just as far ahead to pull the engine, drop the pan, inspect, repair, and reinstall the engine. But I am no expert, I just play with this old iron.

ozbo..... ....sounds like you've gotter figgered out. You may want to consider pressure washing all the muck'n'crud off before you start "operating on your patient".

And while yer previous owner claimed he shutter down intime, I'd take the time to pull a couple of crankshaft bearing lower shells for a look-see. Overheated journal from lack of oilpressure, scored bearing shells from lack of oilpressure. Might even lay a strip of "plasti-gauge" ($3 cheap) and check for bearing clearance. (read instructions)..... .....Dell
