I changed the rear/tranny fluid on the 8N this past weekend. First time I have done it. I used the universal fluid they have at NAPA. I just wanted to double check to see what you guys think of the stuff. I would have searched the archives, but they are down right now. Thanks for the advise!!!----Rob

Universal transmission fluid typically is labeled to met the Ford "134" specs. Is yours so labeled?

Well, it should do the job for ya, then!

Dell says I'm a nut because I still like the 90 weight oil. I just use my 'N in the summer, and am well satisfied with the hydraulic performance and the fact that it is less leaky than the thinner stuff, especially in hot weather, but to each their own!

On the subject of the "134" type oil, I am almost certain that Deere Hygard and Case IH Hytran also meet the Ford "134" spec. Can anybody confirm that?

They are about the same and meet 134 specs. I use Hy-Gard in my three Fords, havn't had any problems yet.

Well, I've read all the stuff about GL-5 being corrosive to "yellow metals" i.e., bronze, etc., ....but can anyone tell me exactly what parts in the N-series trans ARE actually "yellow"? Those are usually syncronizers, etc., but this is a non-sync trans., right?
