I took mine to a local machine shop to do the labor and size the bearings and things. All I did was purchase the parts from my usual suppliers for them to use. I ended up paying around $500 for labor + additional $ that I spent for parts. This included oven cleaning the head, block, and oilpan, resurfacing the flywheel, shaving the head, installing new valves, guides, and springs, new bearings, polishing the crankshaft, and new rings (they supplied rings and bearings). The only downside was I had to put the engine back together myself. But that was fine by me because I wanted to learn anyway. Just my experience. Not as hard as you think. I just left the critical work (sizing the bearings and piston rings, lapping the valves) to the professionals.
