Don't appologize.. thanks a bundle.

I had some oil system questions for my mechanic at work, and was trying to describe this to him.. and without my manual.. he wasn't getting a good mental picture of it.

I was telling him about the spring... too long.. and oil pressure may get too high.. too short.. and oil may bypass too much.. etc.

again.. many thanks.

I had change my pressure guage during my restoration. It wasn't til later when I finally got the tractor running that I noticed my oil pressure was pegging the guage. Something wasn't right. My old gauge always read somewhere around 20-25lbs. I got a new relief spring then I removed my old one(from the left side without disassembling anything)and compared them. The spring is suppose to stick past the plunger alittle less than 3/4 in. Mine was a whole 11/2in. I installed the new spring, cranked the tractor and the pressure went straight to 40lbs. Exactly what the book says I'm supposed to have.

Thanks for the scan too.. great info.. just what I needed between the pics and all.

I'm assuming that is a copper or aluminum gasket?

The gasket that was on mine was some sort of fiber gasket. It wasn't aluminum or copper although I dont see why one wouldnt work. Just like an oil drain plug on a car or something

No,you don't have to remove the radiator. However, taking either the distributor or the water pump off helps out tremendously. I recommend taking the distributor off as it is easier to get to and replace than is the water pump.

This is the closest thing I have. Unfortunately, the big plug is hidden by the coil in that picture.

Did you want a picture of the assembly taken apart or just the pic of it on the engine?
