The 'best' way, but not the only way, to polarize THIS generator ( please note the all caps disclaimer ) is to jumper the Batt terminal on the VREG to the FIELD terminal on the VREG. Then you're applying max current to the field windings while NOT causing current to flow thru the armature. This only works on B-Circuit gennys. trust me on this one.

On an NAA with stock B-circuit genny, AFAIK, you jumper batt and field at the regulator.

If this is wrong I'm sure Jim Cox will correct it.

Momentarily connect BAT and ARM terminals on the regulator. (Never the FieLD. Ground the FLD term to troubleshoot a generator. If it puts out with the FLD grounded then the gen is OK.)

Horney..... ..the NAA genny and V/R uses a DIFFERENT POLARIZING PROCEDURE because it is what is called a "B" circuit.

Your procedure is correct for the "A" circuit 8N 3-wire genny and 4-terminal squarecan V/R.

Its good that neubies (and us ol'timers) to ask questions about obscure procedures..... ..respectfully, Dell

This was just a test to see if you were paying attention, Dell! (grin) Thanks for the correction.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I tried field to batt at the voltage regulator and that did not correct the problem. The meter show a discharge when the motor is running. Is it time for a new regulator or generator?

Norm..... ...yes, good bet, bad squarecan voltage regulator for your NAA. Don't forget to "polarize" your new voltage regulator. Theres usually a tiny sheet of paper in the V/R box with instructions in 6 languages 'cept 'murricum. But who reads instructions, eh?..... ....Dell
